Hoi An, boasting one of the best beaches in the world, is located on the central Vietnamese coast and it is one of the prettiest towns that you are likely to find. The old buildings that hark back to a bygone age lend the town a romantic feel that is beguiling to tourists who come in the thousands to wander through the old quarter. There are many hotels in Hoi An that can help to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Hoi An was a busy trading port between the 15th and 19th centuries with traders coming from China, Japan, India and Holland to trade their wares. Much of the original town and buildings are preserved just as they were in the town’s golden age and this means that the city is a romantic and interesting location for tourists. There are also many different and lovely handicrafts that are made and sold around the town at artisan’s markets.
Another great thing that has been done around the Hoi An city center in order to preserve a feeling of the bygone era and make it a peaceful place to be is to ban cars and motos. This means that you can wander around in peace free from the honking and jostling that you will find in most other Asian cities.
Close to the town there are the intriguing ruins of My Son. And only a couple of kilometers out of town is Cua dai beach, which is perfect for lazing about on and catching some sun and nearby China Beach is great for snorkeling or windsurfing.
Since there is no nearby airport at Hoi An, the only way to get there is by road. This does not deter the thousands of tourists who come each year to see the historical city at its finest. The main places to stay while visiting are the city center or out at Cua Dai beach, which is only about 3 kilometers out of town.
