Visiting Edinburgh – City Of Edinburgh

Edinburgh – City of Edinburgh is a marvelous vacation destination that can take several weeks to fully explore. The streets and lanes of the city often are found in the medieval style that most of the town was built on. When you visit the city there will be an immediate sense that time is gently turning back to a slower and more relaxed place.

The people of Scotland are warm and friendly and you will find that the capital of Scotland embodies that spirit. Edinburgh is host to over a million visitors a year. Yet, each visitor is made to feel invited and welcome. Old town is comprised of architecture constructed in medieval times. The shops, boutiques, pubs, and restaurants reflect the centuries old traditions of Scotland. New Town is a diverse mix of modern and’th century Georgia architecture that blends together with fluidity and enhances the elements that reflect their era.

Each part of the City of Edinburgh offer a vacationer the opportunity to spend several days exploring the unique features, museums, a shops of the city. In Old Town one can start at the top of Royal Mile and tour Edinburgh Castle. The historical artifacts and beauty in the castle are unsurpassed. The crag upon which it sits makes it an imposing fortress that holds the secrets of centuries of royals.

As you stroll down Royal mile you will find museums, shops, and cafes on both the main street and on the side streets. Royal mile has been kept in its historic state and gives you the feeling of walking through time. You will find the Holyrod Palace at the end of Royal Mile. This is the Queen’s official residence. When the royal family is not in residence much of the palace is open to visitors who can see the paintings, furnishings, and historical artifacts of royal families through the centuries.

On the High Street section of Royal Mile you will get a chance to see John Knoxs’ home. This home was built in the early 15th century for a prominent minster in Edinburgh. It has been completed renovated and provides a visitor with a look at hand painted ceilings and decor that was popular in the–th and 15th centuries. Moving on to Canongate, you will find that most of the medieval buildings have been renovated and provide visitors with museums, galleries, and cafes that cater to traditional Scots cuisine.

A commemoration to three famous authors can also be found on Royal Mile. Lady Stairs home provides a visitor with art, history, and books from the works of Sir Walter Scott, Robert Burns, and Robert Louis Stevenson. The home is renovated in the classic and elegant design and decor of the period and reflects the love and warmth for these wonderful authors.

Grassmarket Square is a great place to see while you are in Edinburgh. By following Candlemaker Row you will come to the center of the square. There are regular festivals and events held in the square. It is surrounded by five star restaurants, inns, and restaurants. The food found at the square fits any appetite. It may be medieval or modern and from any culture that is desired.

Dividing Old Town and New Town is Princes Street. This half mile street provides one with monuments, shops, buildings, and gardens that are a delight. Many residents of Edinburgh enjoy the gardens for reflection and relaxation. From the gardens you can see the castle and all of Old Town.

There is so much to see and do in Edinburgh – City of Edinburgh. You will find the Royal Botanical Gardens, The Royal Yacht Britannia, and many other sites. There are festivals, parades, and parties on a regular basis throughout the year. And, if you arrive and are not sure where to begin, the open-top bus offers a tour of the entire city to give you a chance to plan your route for the adventure.
