A town coming out from Stone, Bronze and Iron Age settlements Llandudno – Conwy is loved by both its residents and returning visitors. Affectionately known as the Queen of Welsh Resorts the town is the largest seaside resort in Wales with plenty to keep the holidaymaker busy. This is my top 5 must sees in and around the town.
Conwy Castle
One of North Wales most popular attractions the castle stands as a medieval masterpiece dominating the mouth of the River Conwy. Only 5 miles from Llandudno the castle allows for awe inspiring views across the ocean and of the surrounding mountains, Snowdonia included. It was commissioned by Edward I and constructed over 700 years ago.
Llandudno Bay and North Shore
The town is blessed with two wonderful beaches, situated between the Great and Little Ormes. Running alongside most of the North Shore is the Victorian Promenade, which is home to many of the town\’s popular hotels. Many activities can be enjoyed along this beautiful stretch of sand. From the North Shore jetty boat trips can be taken that provide spectacular views of the bay and Ormes. Donkey rides are ever popular with children and it is a recognized surfing spot.
Llandudno Pier
Built in 1878, and at over 2,295 feet, the pier is the longest of its kind in Wales. Along the pier are the usual collection of bars and cafes and Victorian souvenir shops. For the younger generation is an amusement arcade and small fairground. There are two entrances to the pier, at North Parade and Happy Valley Road, making it rather unique.
Happy Valley
At the base of the Great Orme and an easy 10-minute stroll from the promenade is Happy Valley. With wonderful gardens and views of the pier and bay, this is a great place to escape from the bustle of the town. From here one can take a trip on the Great Orme Cabin Lift. The cable car is the longest of its kind in Britain, at just over 1 mile, and climbs to the top of the Great Orme. A ride will be met with the best views of the pier, town and dry ski slop and toboggan run.
Marine Drive
For the interested traveler, Marine Drive has plenty to offer. Drive slowly, take the vintage coach or, even better, take a leisurely walk and discover something new upon each turn. The scenic route continues for 4 miles around the Great Orme base and passes St Tudno\’s Church, Great Orme Bronze Age Copper Mine and Lighthouse.
By combining it\’s historical roots and modern day attractions Llandudno – Conwy offers something for everyone. All year round the town is waiting for you to come and enjoy it\’s true splendor.
Look for hotels in Llandudno.
