The town of Ashbourne – Derbyshire is located in England and is a small town with a low population. The town is located in the Derbyshire Dales. Many of the people in the town like to call it the Gateway to Dove Dale. A dale in England is known as a valley with a river running through it and surrounded by mountains.

The popular dale is a tourist site and attracts visitors annually. The scenic site includes wooded ravines, stepping stones, rock pillars and caves along with the river, valley and mountains. Ashbourne is located in the region of Derbyshire in the country of England.

Thousands of players compete in the event which is held on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. The countryside is the field and the goals are several miles apart. The ball used is bigger than a football and is filled with cork so that the ball will float during the match when played through rivers.

The town also holds an annual football match where most of the people who live in the town play football for two days. The games are known as the Royal Shrovetide Football Match. The football game has been held for centuries and moves through the local river beds, roads and fields. The attempts to ban the game have been unsuccessful.

The town is also known for Fair Trade status which promotes certified goods. The requirement for obtaining this status in the town requires that tea and coffee be served at the Fair Trade meetings. The status also requires that at least two of the Fair trade products are available in the local area shops, cafes and other business establishments.

The food shops range from small cafes and bistros to award winning restaurants. The restaurants serve produce from the local area. The traditional market scene in town offers delicatessens that offer fine chocolate, pastries and cakes. The special selections of cheeses, butchers and fish vendors can also be found in the marketplace.

The town of Ashbourne – Derbyshire is located in England and filled with historic buildings. The visitors can enjoy the sights that still have the look of a centuries old town. The historic market place has cobblestone streets to enjoy shopping in the boutiques, bistros, antique, and specialty food shops. The markets still take place very Thursday and Saturday throughout the year. This is a tradition that dates back to the medieval period in England.
