Traveling at Christmas time can be a test of nerve, skill and patience. Especially for those of us that have to travel any real distance to where we are spending the holidays. Any more than a hundred miles can complicate things and make everything a little more difficult. When traveling by automobile, there are a few things that you can do to make things easier for yourself.
The first thing, when traveling by vehicle, that can make your trip less stressful is utilizing a rental car. When driving you will want to plan multiple stops. Renting a vehicle will save the wear ans tear on your car, but if you decide to utilize your own vehicle then you will want to have it serviced. Be have the tuned up, tires checked and oil changed can make a large difference on long trips. You will also want to be sure that your tires are properly aligned and inflated, as this can save you money on gas through out your travels.
One of the great things about traveling with a vehicle is that you can take almost anything you want. You do not have to limit your clothing and can pack as much luggage as you would prefer. This means that you will probably have enough room to pack games, books and other items that will keep the family entertained.
Another benefit to driving is food. Sure you can stop at any gas station or fast food restaurant, but even better than that you can take along a cooler with good food and snacks and drinks. It sure beats paying airport prices for those types of things.
There are also some benefits to flying as well. First of all your flight will be much quicker than driving. You will also pack lighter, therefore not needed to spend so much time preparing. You only place a few clothing items in your luggage and you are ready to go. Then there is the fact that you can sit back and relax whiel someone else does all the driving.
