Short Breaks in Glasgow

Glasgow has appeared in some of the world’s top travel guides as a must visit destination and more and more people are discovering why. It might not jump out at you as a good city break destination but once you discover what Glasgow has to offer you will find out why.

The largest city in Scotland and one with a history dating back to the stone age and Celtic Druids visits by the Romans including a Roman Fort. The first Christian church was founded in the 6th century and around 500 years later work began on Glasgow’s first cathedral. An important trading centre since the 16th century, which evolved in to the major shopping centre Glasgow is today.

Glasgow is widely known today as a major shopping location with numerous shops and markets to suit those of all tastes, there is only one city in the UK with better shops and that is London. There is a great selection of restaurants, clubs, casinos, pubs and music venues throughout the city.

Throughout the year there are various festivals including the West End Festival, the Celtic Connections Festival, The International Comedy Festival, Mechant City Festival, Glasgay the UK’s largest gay and lesbian festival, the Jazz Festival and more. These festivals generally run every year and each year get larger and larger.

Getting to Glasgow is easy there are lots of low cost flights into Glasgow from all over the UK and Europe. There are good rail connections from England and from the east coast of Scotland straight into the city centre. The coach station is also in the city centre and there are regular arrivals from all over Scotland and England. It can be easily reached from any of the London airports with regular daily flights.

Glasgow has a great selection of accommodation suitable for everyone from great value youth hostels, bed and breakfast guest houses, apartments and two to five star hotels. There are lots of different options and you can enjoy Glasgow what ever your budget is.

Glasgow can experience different climates all in the one day but this will not detract from your enjoyment as there is lots to do regardless of the weather conditions. Despite what you may believe it can get very warm in Glasgow during the Summer months

Glasgow has a wealth of good quality attractions to visit whilst you are here including the fantastic Kelvingrove Art Gallery, which has free entry. There is also the Science Mall, which includes the Science Centre the Glasgow Tower and the Glasgow Imax.

A short drive away from Glasgow is Loch Lomond and the beautiful Highlands can be reached are less than an hours drive from Loch Lomond. Stirling and Edinburgh can easily be reached by car for a day trip.

Glasgow has it all from nightlife to culture and some of the best Indian restaurants in the UK. So visit Glasgow before its no longer one of the best kept city break destinations in Europe.
