Camping in the Florida Keys and Bahia Honda

Bahia Honda State Park has something very uncommon for the Florida Keys. It\’s got a beach. Plus a really nice one too. Add to it great camping sites and you have the formula for a Florida Keys camping paradise. Let\’s discover why.

Although the Florida Keys are islands in the sun, natural beaches are very exceptional indeed. Why? Mainly because the waters surrounding the Florida Keys are so tranquil, the beach does not get an opportunity to create a beach. Bahia Honda has, no doubt about it, the most beautiful beach in the Florida Keys, and possibly the best in Florida.

Swimming is quite a popular pastime at Bahia Honda State Park. The calm turquoise seas are warm, being in the upper 70s to the low 80s most of the year. And the waters are very clear. Although the beach faces out to the Atlantic Ocean, unless there\’s a storm out to sea, the waters are calm.

Together with swimming, snorkeling is quite a big draw to Bahia Honda. The peaceful, clear waters that invite swimming are great for exploring the undersea kingdom. Plus, if you really want a delight, take a snorkeling tour from Bahia Honda out to Looe Key to visit the coral reef.

Kayaking, canoeing and boating are also on the list of enjoyable things to do at the park. There\’s a little marina plus a boat ramp. If you\’ve somehow mislaid your own boat, you can rent a kayak from the park\’s concession stand. The serene waters are great for exploring the waterways around the island, particularly on the Gulf side.

Don\’t forget Florida Keys camping. From tents to RVs to renting one of their beach cabins, all sorts of camping are available. Here\’s a caution: call ahead to reserve a camping site or particularly one of the cabins. Because as you might imagine, a beach cottage in paradise has a bit of a waiting list.

Bahia Honda State Park is found in the lower Florida Keys, a bit south and west of Seven Mile Bridge. One visit and you\’ll very likely realize why they call the Florida Keys the American Caribbean. Or just call it Paradise.

So come on down for a visit. The weather is beautiful and the natives are friendly. And once you\’re here, you\’ll have to agree that paradise is found at Bahia Honda State Park in the Florida Keys.
