Frame it like a World War II epic. The Germans were blasting through western Europe en route to England, the Japanese were pushing through China on their way to the British Raj, and the Italians has long conquered lowly Ethiopia. Meanwhile, a world away, nestled north of the City By the Bay, thousands of men and women went to work building ships. The place: Sausalito, California. That’s right: long before the boomers and yuppies moved in, Sausalito was a hard-working center of industry.
The Pangs of Being Fat

Nothing puts a damper on your day like an extra ten or twenty pounds slathered around your gut. Face it, being fat is no fun. Running is a bummer. Jumping is out of the question. And anything more than a brisk pace is asking a lot. Being fat is a stone cold drag. It limits your options in life and narrows your field of vision.
