Before moving to Guatemala for Costa Rica I traveled there and it was a race against time to get as much accomplished as possible: finding a home, finding a school for my boy… etc. We wanted to make this transition for our son as smooth as possible, which usually involves gifts of some sorts in the middle of all the running.
Central America Wildlife – Green Heron

The Green Heron is a small bird (44 cm.) that likes to stalk it’s pray. Native populations can be found all over Costa Rica as well as in most of Central America. These birds appear in their breeding ranges at the same time they did 100 years ago. They are quite common in habitats that go along water bodies such as mangroves, beaches and rivers. Adults have a glossy, greenish-black cap, a greenish back and wings that are grey-black grading into green or blue, a chestnut neck with a white line down the front, grey under parts and short yellow legs. The bill is dark with a long, sharp point.

White-Faced Capuchin Monkeys are small and inquisitive new world monkeys and the easiest to observe in the wild. In Guatemala they are seen in forests along the Atlantic Coast. There are also populations of these monkeys in Honduras and Costa Rica. They can be found in forests and mangroves up to 2,100m elevation. They are always around jumping from tree to tree.

It is a crocodilian reptile. The species’ common name comes from a bony ridge between the eyes. It gives the appearance of a pair of spectacles. Al though they are one of the smallest crocodilian species these guys are fierce predators. In Guatemala it can be found in the northern department of Petn. It can be found in much of Central and South America. It lives in a range of lowland wetland and riverside habitat and can tolerate salt water as well as fresh.

Howler Monkeys are among the largest of the new world monkeys. There are few, around five families of primates that are found in different parts of the world. These families are ranked together as New World Monkeys. Howler monkeys are native to central and South American forests. Corcovado National Park has a wide number of Howler Monkeys.
