A Quick Guide To Formentera
The main attraction to Formentera island is its tranquility and the fact it is completely unspoiled. It has a population of about seven thousand. It is the nearest place to heaven on earth. Quite simply beautiful. Many people have long know about the secret hideaway that is Formentera and some would argue a few too many people know about it’s pleasures in August a month when I would recommend that you stay away from this small Island. June and September and some of the best months to visit.
Formentera is a very small island, dwarfed by its close neighbor Ibiza, it is quiet and un-spoilt by tourism, though growing in popularity year by year. It couldn’t be further away in atmosphere than Ibiza. You could easily imagine you were in the Caribbean.
Formentera island is a relatively flat island with windy dusty lanes, lined with fincas, and many breeds of trees including Sabina, fig, palm, and pine trees. One of it’s finest features are it’s beaches that stretch for miles – some have sea on both sides!
Formentera is well known for its fresh seafood with grilled fish and local fish stews being perennial favorites. Although don’t be fooled a lot of sea food is actually imported from Scotland! The sea food restaurants on the beach can be very expensive.
If you’ve never been to this beautiful island you must go the pictures don’t do it justice. It has beautiful beaches and clear water as well as spectacular inland scenery. The weather is fine most of the year. I’d recommend you go between May and October and stay clear of August.
Finally I would recommend that you go and see the island by boat. They are cheaper than you think and there are many options to choose from. Just ask one of the search engines.
